Canfield student charged with delinquency

A 16-year-old Canfield High School student was charged after police said he made inappropriate contact and sexual comments to another male classmate.
The accused, of Hickory Hollow Drive, was charged Thursday by Canfield police with delinquency by way of disorderly conduct and delinquency by way of menacing, both fourth-degree misdemeanors.
The accuser, 15, of Greenmont Drive, told police he arrived at history class Tuesday to find the accused resting his feet on the seat of his chair. He said that when he asked the accused to move his feet, he refused and said, “If you sit on my feet I will knock your teeth out,” according to a police report.
The accuser said he moved his desk forward and sat down, but the accused began rubbing his foot on the his backside, according to the report. The accused denied this action to police and said he put his foot only on the accuser’s back.
The accused then began making inappropriate comments, asking him to perform sexual acts on him, the report stated. Police took witness statements from at least six students who said they saw what was happening and heard many of the comments.
District Superintendent Dante Zambrini said the school district investigated the allegations and followed proper disciplinary procedures. Zambrini wouldn’t comment on the accused’s specific punishment.
“In cases of this type, we follow school procedure, and in this case, all of those guidelines were followed,” he said.
Zambrini said in a case such as this, the punishment could include detention, in-school suspension or out-of-school suspension. He said he believes the building principal took the appropriate course of action.
“We investigate every allegation and research ... both sides of the story,” he said.
