The University System of Ohio has entered into an agreement with Proctor & Gamble to increase industry-financed research spending, Gov.Ted Strickland announced this week.
The agreement, proposed by Strickland in his 2010 State of the State address, will help Ohio meet a key goal in its 10-year strategic plan for higher education.
The partnership is designed to simplify the legal process that companies and universities use to negotiate research collaboration, according to the governor’s press release.
The agreement is modeled on a partnership that the Cincinnati-based company forged with the University of Cincinnati in 2005.

After the program was implemented in 2003, venture-capital investment in Ohio grew 2.5 times faster than the national rate, creating 48,000 jobs and 571 new companies, DeBarr said.
Brown’s bill targets misclassification
washington
U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown introduced legislation this week that aims to prevent workers from being wrongly classified as independent contractors.
The Employee Misclassification Prevention Act would provide workers with access to fair labor standards, health and safety protections and unemployment and workers’ compensation benefits, Brown said in a press release.
The bill would mandate that states conduct audits to identify employers who wrongly classify workers and direct states to strengthen penalties for worker misclassification.
The Department of Labor would be required to monitor states’ efforts to identify misclassification and perform targeted audits on employers in industries that frequently misclassify employees.
