3 dead in Campbell after car crashes into house

CAMPBELL — Three of four occupants of a car died at the scene when the car crashed into a house at 5:05 a.m. today. The fourth occupant was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center.

All four had to be extricated from the car, which was eastbound on Blossom Avenue and ran into the house at 525 Cynthia Drive, where Blossom dead ends, said Acting Campbell Fire Capt. Greg Rosile.

The owner of the brick ranch house, John Mrakusic, his girlfriend and daughter, were awakened by the crash but not injured.

“The car appeared to have gone airborne and nosedived into the house,” Rosile said, adding that damage to the house was extensive and electric power had to be shut off. “The car was buried into the house roughly up to the dashboard,” he added.

Rosile believes the car likely was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the impact, but police were not chasing it.

The three people dead at the scene were two men and a woman, all appearing to be about 21 years old, he added.

The man taken to the hospital was a rear seat passenger, and Rosile could not give an estimate of his age.

Names of victims were not available.

A male driver and a woman were in the front seat, and two men were in the back seat, Rosile said.
