Ursuline Preschool helps Haiti victims

One school coming together to teach children about the act of giving and caring was the goal of Ursuline Preschool and Kindergarten (UPSK) in Canfield.

The school participated in assembling “Health Kits” for those affected by the recent earthquake in Haiti.

A parent of one of the students approached the school’s director/principal, Sister Charlotte Italiano, with the idea of participating in the International Orthodox Christian Charities Emergency Kits program.

Each class brought in an item to create a kit, including a hand towel, washcloth, comb, metal nail file or nail clippers, bar of soap, toothbrush and six Band-Aids.

UPSK had an overwhelming response from each class in the school, plus additional donations of soap from the Hampton Inn in Canfield, Nail files from Casal’s de Spa, and toothbrushes from Sangeetha Sethi.

The kindergarten classes assembled 100 kits to be sent through the IOCC’s distribution channels. The extra items not used for the kits were donated to the HIV/AIDS Ministry, a ministry the Ursuline Sisters support.
