Tables and chairs at the Boardman Library were covered with hundreds of strips of tape targeted for Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County Director Carlton Sears.

Sears agreed to be taped to a wall inside the Boardman Library April 15. The event, called Stick-it To the Director, was used to generate funds for teen services and library programming.

Strips of duct tape were sold for $2 each. More than $600 were raised resulting in Sears being covered in more than 300 strips of tape. The event was open to the public and anyone was able to purchase tape.

It took 35 minutes for all pieces of tape to be placed. Teen XTreme members took turns laying strip after strip across Sears’ body.

“I thought it wouldn’t stick,” Sears said. “But after a while it began to feel pretty sturdy.”

The library’s Teen Advisory Board came up with the idea for the event. The board helps plan programs, develop collections and aids in fundraising events.

Teen XTreme member Jose Calderon, who attends Glenwood Middle School, says this event is worth doing again next year.

“Overall, I think it was amazing. It’s the first time we ever did this,” he said.

After sticking the director to the wall, kids were able to enjoy socializing with each other and eating burritos that were donated by Chipotle Mexican Grill.

Public Library Development Director Deborah Liptak said the night was a complete success. She looks forward to doing the event again next year, but sticking someone else other than the director to the wall.

“We sure hope to do it again,” she said. “This was our first one and we are looking for some celebrities for the future.”
