Casimiro Ellis is in Mahoning County jail on an attempted-murder charge in the shooting of Alynn Grant, 31, who police said is his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend.
Ellis, 29, of East Avondale Avenue in Youngstown, was arrested late Thursday morning by the U.S. Marshals Task Force at 2139 Lexington Ave. N.W. in Warren, said Boardman Police Sgt. Glen Riddle.
Ellis appeared Thursday before Judge Joseph Houser of Mahoning County Court, who set Ellis’ bond at $1 million. A preliminary hearing is set for April 27.
The shooting happened April 15 at 6592 Mill Creek Blvd. Grant told police he pulled into his driveway and saw Ellis walking toward him with a gun, according to a police report.
Riddle said the incident was related to the woman who once shared the Mill Creek Boulevard home with Grant. Riddle said she and Grant had a relationship, but it was ending because of domestic issues and a restraining order against him. She is in a relationship with Ellis, Riddle said.
“[The woman] was living there with her ex-boyfriend, but they’d had some domestic issues,” he said. “Grant was home on his lunch break, and he wasn’t supposed to be there.
“[The woman] and Ellis showed up to get some of her things.”
Grant was shot three times — once in the leg and twice in the back — before Ellis fled in the woman’s vehicle. Riddle said Grant was in stable condition at St. Elizabeth’s Health Center on Thursday afternoon. He is expected to recover.
Ellis was released from prison in 2009 after serving 10 years on a voluntary-manslaughter charge, Riddle said. He was convicted in 2000 in the shooting death of Karl Green.
