Canfield adds members to National Honor Society

Canfield High School held its National Honor Society induction ceremony April 16, during which 47 students were honored by the society.

Students inducted into the society included: Ryan Abraham, Hilary Allen, Melanie Arnold, Alexis Bates, Jared Bettura, Michael Bleggi, Brittany Bobovnyik, Sarah Bolina, Lauren Boucherle, Annamarie Braga, Arthur Brant, Anna Brocker, Jennifer Cardone, Brianne DeRose, Taylor Dorman, Amanda Ellis, Jake Ferrier, Ashley French, Chloe Gebacz, Emily Gleichert, Danielle Goddard, Gabriella Gullia, Yun Han, Paul (PJ) Hido, Olivia Johntony, Mariebeth Knott, Eva Laino, Lauren Lewis, Megan Martinko, Amanda Myhal, Stephen Negley, Alexa Pool, Alyssa Pool, Robert Reed, Brianne Rothbauer, Kelsey Santangelo, Gretchen Scheel, Michael Seifert, Adrian Slipski, Patrick (PJ) Stickle, Laura Tinkler, Gavin Trebilcock, Chrissy Vankovich, Gia Velasquez, Margaret Watt, Michael Werner and Mary Wirtz.

Students and their parents waited in the hallway and then the students were escorted by their parents into the auditorium and each student was introduced individually to a packed house and lots of applause.

As the students were introduced, they were presented with the National Honor Society gold medal that was placed around their neck.

Students then crossed the stage and signed the membership book.

Current members of the society then spoke on the four pillars of the National Honor Society. Angela Bouch spoke on Character, Lauren McKenna spoke on Leadership, John Vagas spoke on Service and Cassandra Homick spoke on Scholarship. Judge Maureen Sweeney was the guest speaker.

The Canfield High School National Honor Society officers include Lauren McKenna, president; Virginia Li, vice president; Elizabeth Wilkens, treasurer; Megan Kubic, secretary; Maggie Wagner, historian; Kelly Kuppler and Morgan Cheeks, rescue mission and Hillary Fowler and Kendra Fischer, magical moments. Advisers are Tim Wensel and Matt Montgomery.

After the ceremony, inductees, parents, guests and staff enjoyed a reception in the cafeteria.
