Boardman record holder jumping at Mount Union


Samara Sutton, a 2009 Boardman graduate, is competing on the Mount Union College track and field team in the sprint events and long jump.

Samara was a four-year letter winner with the Boardman girls track team.

In her freshman year, she earned Federal League honorable mention in the 4x100 meter relay.

In her junior year, she was a part of school records in the long jump relay and the 1600 meter medley relay team only to break them both again her senior year.

Sutton was a county and district competitor all four years and a regional competitor three years in the long jump and relay events.

Last year as a senior, she earned second-team Federal League honors as a member of the 4x100 meter relay team.

She placed seventh in the long jump and sixth in the 4x200 meter relay.

At districts, Sutton was sixth in the long jump, fifth in the 4x200 meter relay and the 4x100 meter relay.

At the Fitch dual meet last spring, Samara set a new school record in the long jump with a career best leap of 17-6 1/2.

She also had a personal-best performance of 26.9 in the 200-meter dash and 12.7 in the 100 meters.

As a student at Boardman High School, Sutton was a member of the National Honor Society, the National Art Honor Society, business club and the medical careers club.

She was a four-year letter winner in basketball where she was a member of the state qualifying team in 2008.

Sutton is majoring in business and graphic design at Mount Union. She is the daughter of David and Diedra Aey.
