Boardman girls win 10th county title


The Boardman girls track and field team carried on the tradition established by former teammates in the program by winning its 10th consecutive Mahoning County championship Saturday at Fitch Stadium.

The girls team outscored runner-up Austintown Fitch by a score of 182-134.

Eight girls were county champions in their respective events. Senior Doriyon Glass won the 100 in 13.2, the 200 in 26.27 and anchored the winning 4x200 and the 4x100 relay teams.

For her performances, Glass was selected as the recipient of the Division I Rob Ruane Female MVP award.

Senior Nicole Biagetti was a county champion in three events. She won the long jump with a leap of 15-7 Ω and was the lead leg on the 4x200 and 4x100 relay teams.

This was her second straight county title in the long jump.

Sophomore Lesley Koch ran the second leg in both the 4x200 and 4x100 to earn her two county titles.

Sophomore Ali Ciavarella ran the third leg of the 4x100 relay and freshman Lindsay Olenych ran the third leg of the 4x200, both earning county titles.

Sophomore Tori Moore was a double county winner, taking first place in the 1600 with a time of 5:43.59 and coming back later in the meet to win the 800 in 2:30.83.

Junior Katie Heney won the 3200 in 12:03.8 and senior pole vaulter Karlie Ligore won her event, vaulting 8-0.

County runners-up were the 4x800 relay team of senior Colleen Kratofil, junior Chelsea Dunn, and sophomores Emily Bodamer and Tori Moore, running a time of 10:46.09.

Heney came back after her 3200 win to place second in the 1600 with a time of 5:48.30.

Senior Valerie Hood threw a career-best toss of 137-8 to place second in the discus and 36-9 æ in the shot to claim another second place.
