Lucas County’s best- known impounded pit bull, once fated for doggie death row, is now a local television star with a bright future down state.
Yesterday, the brown-and-white dog named Amos became the first adult pit bull to be transferred out of the Lucas County dog warden’s pound.
Before his 4 p.m. release, the only full-grown pit bulls to leave did so in body bags after being euthanized.
Picking the gentle 2-year-old up was John Dinon, executive director of the Toledo Area Humane Society, which on Wednesday announced its decision to start adopting out a few healthy and well-behaved pit bulls to the public.
Dinon recalled how their first stop was the downtown Toledo studios of Fox’s Toledo affiliate, WUPW-TV, Channel 36. Amos accompanied Dinon on camera for a report about the humane society’s new adoption decision in a segment that aired during the later half of FOX’s 10 p.m. news broadcast.
