Warren

Trumbull Memorial Hospital has received a three-year term of accreditation in Ultrasound Imagining Services from the American College of Radiology. TMH received the accreditation based on peer-review evaluations of the hospital, its personnel and the medical technology.

Center at UPMC

PITTSBURGH

UPMC has established a center to treat patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a condition in which the heart muscle is abnormally thick without apparent cause. The UPMC Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Center has locations at UPMC Presbyterian and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, offering adult and pediatric patient services.

‘Canine Carnival’

ALLIANCE

Pet therapy is one of the Planetree components at Alliance Community Hospital. The Paws and Reflect Volunteer Pet Therapy Program hosts approximately 25 dogs and their handlers, all members of Therapy Dogs International, Inc.

On May 2, a program is planned to spotlight the hospital’s pet therapy program and help educate youth on pet safety and care. The “Canine Carnival” is free and open to all area youth, but they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The program is at Alliance Friend’s Church pavilion in Alliance from 1 to 3 p.m. The church address is 1307 W. State, Alliance, but the pavilion can be reached from Fernwood Street.

Project fundraiser

NILES

On May 4, Chuck E. Cheese of Niles will host a fundraiser for Project “Be Somebody” to help the fund for the playground being built at Banks Park. Between 3 and 9 p.m., Chuck E. Cheese will donate 15 percent of sales for people who say they are with Project Be Somebody.

Local attorneys will help seniors and low-income residents of Mahoning County prepare for free living wills, powers of attorney, simple wills and health-care powers of attorney Monday at the Mahoning County Senior Center, 1110 Fifth Ave. Pre-registration is required. Alcohol screenings

HERMITAGE, PA.

Sharon Regional Health System’s Behavioral Health Services (BHS) will offer free and confidential alcohol screenings April 29 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Diagnostic and Imaging Center, at 2435 Garden Way in Hermitage. The screenings are in observance of April being Alcohol Awareness Month.

BHS addiction counselors will conduct the screenings, which will consist of completing a questionnaire on current alcohol use and a brief interview with an addiction counselor. Individuals and/or families interested in exploring chemical addiction treatment options are also encouraged to attend.

Youngstown is among Ohio cities eligible to apply for $330,000 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act 2009 funding that the Ohio Department of Health plans to release to raise immunization rates among infants and toddlers residing in Ohio’s metropolitan areas.

System installed

A digital security system was recently installed at Children’s Rehabilitation Center funded by a $4,348 grant from the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley.
