Ex-lawyer for sewer agency faces charges

CLEVELAND

A former top lawyer for the sewage agency serving northeast Ohio has been charged with shaking down a contractor for more than $682,000 in bribes.

The charges against William Schatz, 64, of Moreland Hills were outlined Wednesday in a federal court filing. Schatz resigned in 2007 from the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District.
