Canfield outslugs Boardman, 11-9

CANFIELD

Nick Reinthaler’s first-inning grand slam wiped out Boardman’s 4-0 advantage and propelled Canfield over the Spartans, 11-9, in high school baseball on Wednesday.

Reinthaler’s three hits included a double and he drove in five runs. Justen Vrabel and Kyle Vaclav each had two hits including solo homers, for the Cardinals (9-3).

Also with two hits were Ben Angelo and Joe Hoelzel, with Angelo scoring twice.

For Boardman, Mark Leone had three RBIs and Anthony O’Nesti doubled.

Struthers 15, Lakeview 5

CORTLAND

Corey Sass’ three hits included two doubles and he drove in three runs for the Wildcats (8-4, 3-0 All-American Conference).

Anthony Lucas also had three hits including two doubles. He scored three runs and drove in two. Kory George had two hits and scored twice while Tyler Serich doubled.

Salem 13, Liberty 3

SALEM

Winning pitcher Nick Lesky homered for the Quakers (4-10, 1-2 AAC).

Lesky and Kyle Costal doubled, Alex Whinnery had three hits and Kenny Saltsman two.

For the Leopards (6-8, 1-3), Nick Walley doubled.

LEAVITTSBURG

Josh Gore’s two hits included a triple for the Red Devils.

Anthony Clinkscale and Raul Pizzaro also had two hits.

For the Vikings (4-8, 2-2 AAC), Bobby Klein and Trey Yoho each had two hits.

Ursuline 6, Lisbon 0

STRUTHERS

Harry Finelli pitched a complete-game shutout, striking out eight and allowing only four hits.

Anthony Rohan had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for the Irish.

Kyle Weinstock had two hits for Lisbon.

Howland 5, Niles 3

HOWLAND

Adam Shrodeck gave up three runs in the first inning, but settled down to pitch the next five innings to pick up his second win.

Chris Maze pitched the seventh for the save.

Corey Hickman had two hits and two RBIs for the Tigers.

Evan Bollinger had three hits for the Red Dragons.

Chaney 12, Youngstown Christian 11

YOUNGSTOWN

The Cowboys scored on a walk-off game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the Eagles on Tuesday. Chaney’s Matt Franklin had five RBIs.

VIENNA

Rick Sommers homered and drove in two runs for the Mustangs (12-2, 7-0 Northeast Athletic Conference).

Cory Lumley also drove in a run. For PV (3-11, 2-5), Cory Martin had two hits.

West Branch 5, Northwest 1

CANAL FULTON

Brenden Wells doubled and scored twice for the Warriors (10-5, 4-3 Northeastern Buckeye Conference). Matt Unkefer had two hits and Jeff Deckard was the winning pitcher.

Alliance 16, Southeast 6

RAVENNA

Joey DeJacino homered and drove in four runs for Southeast (2-10). Jared Grimes hit two doubles for the Aviators (12-4).

Badger 18, Bloomfield 10

BLOOMFIELD

Thirteen hits and a six-run seventh inning helped the Braves (2-11) to their second win of the season.

Pitchers Mitch Givens and Mike Chachko combined for a seven-hitter and 10 strikeouts. Givens also had three hits and three RBIs. Chachko had two hits and two RBIs.
