CANFIELD

Canfield senior Dustin Brode set a school and Canfield High stadium record in the shot put with a throw of 69-111/4 on Tuesday. It’s the best throw in the state this spring and second-best in the nation. Brode, a Harvard recruit, won the event at last year’s Division I state outdoor meet and this year’s state indoor meet. His previous-best throw was 66-5.

BERLIN CENTER

McDonald junior Matthias Tayala broke a 54-year-old school record in the discus with a throw of 185-8 at Western Reserve High. The throw, believed to be the second-best in Ohio this spring, broke Ken Scarbrough’s mark of 184-2, set in 1956. Tayala’s previous-best was 179 feet.
