“American Idol” (8 p.m., Fox): “American Idol” once again opens its heart — and its wallet — to the needy with the show’s fundraising special, “Idol Gives Back.” Alicia Keys, Carrie Underwood, the Black Eyed Peas, Annie Lennox and Jeff Beck headline the talent list.

“Food, Inc.” (9 p.m., PBS): You might want to overhaul your diet after watching the Oscar-nominated documentary “Food, Inc.,” which reveals surprising — and often shocking — truths about what we eat and how it’s produced. Berkeley journalist Michael Pollan (”The Omnivore’s Dilemma”) is among the experts interviewed.

Date change for Rising Stars finals

GREENVILLE, PA.

The Greenville Symphony Orchestra’s Rising Stars Competition has changed the date of its final round. It will now take place Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the Passavant Center at Thiel College. The singing competition finals includes 18 singers in three age categories. Admission is $10 at the door.

Dance concert

YOUNGSTOWN

Brandon Martin and U.N. ACT Productions will present a dance concert at 9 p.m. Thursday at The Lemon Grove, 122 W. Federal St.

In addition to Mardin, performers include Monica Beasley Martin, Tribe of Eos and Robyn Depaul. There is no cover charge, but a collection will be taken for the Fuller Center For Housing to aid in the building of houses in Haiti.

Music at the Hoyt

Steve Cohagan will perform in concert at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts. Cohagan’s music combines folk, country and blues with a bit of humor. He will be joined by guitarist Ed Paraday. who has worked with The Coasters, The Diamonds and as a member of the Lawrence Welk television show.

Rush tickets

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday for Rush, who will perform Sept. 16 at the soon-to-open Consol Energy Center. Tickets range from $42.50 to $95 and will be available at livenation.com, the Mellon Arena ticket office, all Ticketmaster locations and by calling (800) 745-3000.

Manchester show

A Sept. 14 concert by Melissa Manchester will kick off the Warren Civic Music Association’s 2010-11 season at Packard Music Hall. Also scheduled are the musical comedy “Forever Plaid,” Oct. 20; The Texas Tenors, Nov. 16; and Happy Holidays — Spirit of Christmas, Dec. 8. Season tickets are $70 ($27 for youths).
