The fund, which was created to perpetuate the work of the late Nick Strimbu Jr., awards leadership scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each to qualified local high school seniors in 11 school districts and an additional $10,000 to the overall leader. It also contributes to economic development agencies and projects and selected humanitarian projects and programs.

Since its inception in 1990, the fund has awarded $1.6 million in grants. In 2009 it awarded more than $138,000 in grants to various community programs and scholarships to area high school seniors.
