Aquadro throws 3-hitter in Penguins’ win over Le Moyne

Youngstown State pitcher Blake Aquadro fi elds a bunt in Sunday’s game against the Le Moyne Dolphins at Eastwood Field. Aquadro, a freshman, held the Dolphins to an unearned run on three hits as the Penguins went on to win 4-1.
Freshman Blake Aquadro held Le Moyne to an unearned run on three hits as the Youngstown State University baseball team defeated Le Moyne, 4-1, on Sunday at Eastwood Field.
The Penguins played solid defense and Aquadro did not allow a hit until a bunt single with two outs in the sixth inning. The Dolphins’ only run came after an error in the ninth frame.
Aquadro did not walk a batter, beaned one hitter, struck out five and surrendered three hits in his first complete game. Over his past two starts, Aquadro has allowed one run on seven hits over 17 innings.
With the game scoreless, Le Moyne threatened after the bunt single in the sixth inning. With two outs, Aquadro gave up a double to left field just over the glove of leaping third baseman Zac McFarland.
Second baseman C.J. Morris then came up with the defensive play of the day when he dove to his left to snag Chris Edmondson’s hard grounder and threw to first, stranding the two Le Moyne runners.
Tom Clayton had two hits and drove in a run that put the Penguins ahead, 1-0. In the Penguins’ sixth at-bat, Derek Carr drew a full-count walk with one out off starter Mark Kuzma.
After Carr swiped second base and went to third on a wild pitch, Clayton brought him in with an RBI double.
The Penguins scored three insurance runs in the eighth inning.
Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Eastwood Field, the Penguins will play against Pittsburgh.
