Local organizations offer fresh produce

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

Grow Youngstown and Grow Warren are now selling shares of fresh local produce directly to Mahoning Valley residents.

Through a grant received by the Raymond John Wean foundation, Grow Youngstown and Grow Warren have partnered with the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. to focus primarily on providing access to fresh local produce in underserved neighborhoods of the two cities and to low-income people.

Shares will be sold for $12.50 per week on a one-week advance payment schedule. There is no obligation to remain in the program if it does not meet the members’ needs. The Ohio Direction Card will be accepted.

Grow Youngstown will continue to support the Crowe Family Farm Community Supported Agriculture program and Early Road CSA, both of Youngstown, and Red Basket CSA of Warren, by marketing them to residents increasingly closer to their farms and eventually helping them develop relationships with local restaurants.
