Attorney named for Pa. man in adopted boy's death

YORK, Pa. (AP) — A central Pennsylvania judge has appointed an independent attorney to advise a man charged along with his wife in the beating death of the 7-year-old son they adopted from Russia.

Michael Craver and Nanette Craver of Carroll Township, are charged with homicide, child endangerment and conspiracy in the Aug. 25 death of 7-year-old Nathaniel Craver.

Authorities have said the child died of complications from traumatic brain injury and was also malnourished.

The couple had retained two attorneys to represent them jointly, but a York County judge on Friday named a separate lawyer for the husband.

The case and a separate one in which a woman put an adopted Russian child on a one-way flight back to his homeland have sparked outrage in Russia.
