Tax-relief measures

Members of the Ohio Democratic congressional delegation outlined how recent tax-relief measures have helped Ohio families at a joint press conference Thursday.
According to members of the delegation, Ohio taxpayers saved an average of $1,046 on their tax returns as a result of tax cuts included in the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.
The press conference focused on the benefits of the refundable homebuyer credit, home energy-efficiency incentives, deductions from new-vehicle purchases and the temporary suspension of taxes on unemployment benefits.
Members of the congressional delegation present at the conference included U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown and U.S. Reps. Tim Ryan, D-17th, Charlie Wilson, D-6th, Dennis Kucinich, D-10th, Steve Driehaus, D-1st, Marcy Kaptur, D-9th, Marcia Fudge, D-11th, Betty Sutton, D-13th, Mary Jo Kilroy, D-15th and John Boccieri, D-16th.
3 Ohio employers up for award

Three Ohio employers have been selected as semifinalists for the 2010 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award.
PNC Bank of Cleveland, Setex Inc. of St. Mary’s and the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department were selected for their exceptional support of employees serving in the National Guard and the Army Reserve.
All three Ohio employers have shown their support through efforts such as covering the difference between military and civilian salaries during deployments, continuing to provide full benefits, sending care packages and providing family support, according to a press release from the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve organization.
