Pavlik, Martinez make weight
Kelly Pavlik and Sergio Martinez both made weight for Saturday's championship fight in Atlantic City.
Pavlik, the WBC and WBO middleweight champion, weighed 159 1/2. It was a big relief inside the camp as Pavlik struggled over the past few weeks to reach the 160-pound limit.
Martinez weighed 159 1/2.
At least 500 fans attended the weigh-in, a good figure for a fight that didn't have quite as much buzz around it as some of Pavlik's previous bouts. The overwhelming majority of them, of course, were Pavlik fans.
At 3:01, the fans started chanting "Kelly! Kelly!" At 3:05, he came out to a big ovation, put one arm up and smiled.
Sergio Martinez waved and got booed. He then started playing to the crowd, which earned him more boos.
As they stood together at the stage, Pavlik started tapping his right hand. Then he started pounding his chest, while Martinez drew his finger across his throat. The whole event was over by 3:09.
