Austintown Library was filled with the sound of music Tuesday as more than 15 instruments were displayed and played. The library hosted a Musical Petting Zoo where kids of all ages were invited to examine, touch and play various musical instruments. Members from YSU’s Dana School of Music, Ohio Collegiate Music Education Association, brought instruments from the woodwind, brass, string and percussion families.
A brief history was given on each instrument followed by a short musical piece so the kids could hear how each instrument differed in sound.
Each child was given time to touch and play the instruments of their choice.
Education majors from YSU conducted the event as an outreach program for the community and its kids. They wanted the children to be able to make a sound choice when it is time for them to choose what instrument they would like to play in school.
