Boardman police have suspect in shooting

Township police issued an arrest warrant for Casimiro Ellis, 29, of East Avondale Avenue, Youngstown, charging him with attempted murder in the shooting of 31-year-old Alynn Grant.

The shooting occurred at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at 6592 Mill Creek Blvd., where Grant told police he pulled into his driveway and saw Ellis walking toward him with a gun.

Grant said Ellis began shooting through the rear window of his car. He told police he thought he was shot in the leg as he was running from the car to the house.

Police Chief Jack Nichols said Grant was shot three times — once in the leg and twice in the back. Grant was in St. Elizabeth’s Health Center in stable condition Wednesday night. His condition Thursday was unavailable.

The victim has a relationship with a woman with whom Ellis was formerly involved, police said.

Lt. Donald Hawkins said jealousy was a possible motive. “That’s a good scenario, but it’s not the only one,” he said. Several things are being investigated, he said, noting a narcotics unit has now been brought onto the case.

Police are continuing to search for Ellis.

Residents in the usually quiet neighborhood were shocked after hearing of the shooting, Nichols said.

He said most residents police contacted felt “that type of outrage” that comes with a shooting near their homes.
