Boardman alum running track at Akron
Lauren Agnew, a 2009 Boardman graduate, is competing on the University of Akron track and field team in the middle distance events.
Agnew was an indoor All-Ohioan all four years at Boardman and qualified to the Nike Outdoor National Championships her freshman year in the mile.
She was an eight-time Mahoning County champion in four different events.
In the Federal League, she was honorable mention in the 800 her freshman year and honorable mention in the 3200 meters her sophomore year. In 2009, Agnew was second team Federal League in the 1600 and honorable mention in the 800 meters.
Agnew was also the 2009 district champion in the 1600 and 800 meters.
At the regional meet, she missed qualifying to state by one place.
She has personal-best performances of 5:14.9 in the 1600, 2:19 in the 800 and 11:44 in the 3200.
Agnew is the school record holder in the 4x1600 meter relay, distance medley and the 1600 medley relay.
Lauren was state qualifier her freshman year in cross country and a four-year letter winner.
She was also a member of the National Honor Society, French Club and a member of band all four years.
Last year, she received the highest honor given athletically at the honors assembly, the George Brownlee Award.
Agnew has been accepted into the honors college for nursing at the University of Akron.
She is the daughter of Scott and Sandi Agnew.
