MINERAL RIDGE

Weathersfield Township trustees approved the annexation of 8.07 acres on state Route 196 to the city of Niles requested by BR Property Group, LLC., 118 N. Main St.

The land, located on old Republic Steel property, is next to property the company already has and is being purchased by the firm, which hopes to seek grants to help conduct environmental studies on the property, which would be better done if the land were part of the city.

Trustees also accepted a donation of six lots, three-quarters of an acre, from Diane E. Shermer and Donna J. Alesi. The property is in the township’s Heaton Chute area.

Trustees also approved proclamations honoring: the Rev. Mark Phillips for his 16 years of service at the First Presbyterian Church of Mineral Ridge; Josephine Ciavarella on her retirement from the Mineral Ridge Event, a newspaper founded by her and her husband in 1996; and Susan Lee-Maher, a Mineral Ridge graduate, for achieving the Girl Scout Gold award for her efforts in restoring the Mineral Ridge Victory Bell at the high school. She is to receive the award June 19.
