Vindicator needs local golf information

YOUNGSTOWN

The Vindicator sports department is accepting golf tournament information that will run in its weekly golf calendar beginning May 2 and running every Sunday through the end of the season.

If you are a tournament director or are holding a golf benefit, send your information by e-mail (sports@vindy.com), fax (330-747-6712) or mail to the Vindicator Sports Department, Box 780, Youngstown, 44501-0780. No information will be accepted over the phone.

Tournament information must include, title, date, golf course and a contact person with phone number.

Niles Relay for Life

The Niles Relay for Life and Team Penn Care will put on a Champions for a Cure event on May 1 from 1:30 until 3:30 p.m.

At the Infante Wellness Center three former Ohio State football players — Bobby Carpenter, Anthony Schlegal and Doug Datish — will sign autographs.

The Carrie Walsh-Jones Run for the Lung will be held on Saturday in downtown Warren.

The 1 mile starts at 9 a.m. followed by the 5K at 9:30 a.m.

Harris steps down as women’s cage coach

GROVE CITY, Pa.

Grove City College head women’s basketball coach Sarah Harris has submitted her resignation, effective at the end of the academic year.

Harris recently completed her fourth season as Grove City’s head coach and guided the Wolverines to a 12-14 overall record, including an 8-6 mark in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.

The Wolverines improved in each of her four seasons as coach. After a 5-20 mark in 2006-07, Grove City improved to 11-14 the next year.

In her third season, the Wolverines again won 11 games and posted a 7-7 conference record. Harris earned PAC Coach of the Year and D3Hoops.com Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year honors for her efforts in the 2008-09 season.

Atlanta bowl extends partnership with SEC

ATLANTA

The Chick-fil-A Bowl will be hosting a Southeastern Conference team through 2013.

The Atlanta bowl announced Wednesday an extension of its partnership with the SEC.

A team from the conference has played in the Chick-fil-A Bowl every year since 1992, when it was still known as the Peach Bowl.

Under the current arrangement, an SEC team faces a squad from the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Man City to tour of United States in July

MANCHESTER, England

Manchester City will prepare for the new season by touring the United States in July.

The games are yet to be confirmed, but City announced Wednesday that they playing “high-profile opponents in different cities along the East Coast.”

City is the biggest spending team in the Premier League since being bought by Sheikh Mansour of Abu Dhabi in September 2008.

Impact to host AC Milan and Fiorentina

MONTREAL

The Montreal Impact will host AC Milan on June 2 in an exhibition at Olympic Stadium, part of a North American tour that will have the Italian club play D.C. United on May 26 at Washington’s RFK Stadium.

The Impact also will play Italy’s Fiorentina on May 23 at Saputo Stadium.

The Italian teams will be missing players who will be with national teams preparing for the World Cup.
