HELOISE: Tied sheets stay tucked

Dear Heloise: For several weeks during a long stay in a motel, I watched the maids change the sheets. I saw that the bottom corners of the (flat — Heloise) bedsheets were gathered at each corner and then twisted about two times into a “ponytail,” then placed under the corner bottom of the mattress, and then a regular tuck-in was done at the foot.

I use this method with my own sheets. Sheets won’t come out from the bottom. Works like a charm!

This is a favorite of mine, too! I actually tie the corner of the sheet in a small knot and slip it under the mattress.

Dear Heloise: During the winter here in Texas, my skin gets dry. My doctor is always telling me to take colder showers, and gosh, I hate to hear that! I never like putting on moisturizer when I finish showering because the moisturizer is too cold. Now I put the bottle down near the drain, and my shower water warms it up. When done, I just put the lotion in the basket next to my shower.

Hi, Heloise: I get many photos from family and friends, and didn’t want to just put them away in a drawer because they took the time to include me in their lives. So years ago, I started to collage them into a frame. When I assemble the photos, my family can recall all the family and friends through the years. Living away from most of them, I still feel like I’ve seen them grow up. I’ve shown them my collection when they visit, and they are all happy they sent the photos. I keep the framed collage near my computer, and it reminds me to pop off an e-mail to keep in touch.

Dear Heloise: I always ask for the hanger when I purchase clothing — the plastic ones with wire hooks.

I have lots of silky things that fall off in the closet. I just had an idea that is simple, inexpensive and works like a charm: foam tape weatherstripping. One side is adhesive, so it sticks to the hanger. The other side is foam, so the clothing clings to it. This also works wonders on trouser clamps to keep the pants from sliding through.
