Thieves steal ’81 car in break-ins

Staff report

WARREN

Missing: Maroon 1981 Olds Delta 88 with 24-inch wheels, loud exhaust, “Lambo” doors that rise up on either side of the car, and no interior or seats.

Stolen from: American Auto Painting, 3425 Youngs- town Road, S.E. at 3:44 a.m. Wednesday.

Value: $2,000.

Method used to steal it: highly unusual.

Warren police were called to American Auto Painting, owned by Daniel Moadus Jr., 63, of Girard. When police arrived, they found a garage door had been ripped off the building and was lying in the parking lot.

When Moadus arrived, he told officers that the Olds had been parked behind the garage door and was now missing.

An off-duty police car working at a car dealership nearby said he saw the Olds traveling east on Youngstown Road but didn’t realize it was stolen at the time.

Another business, Noel’s Car Toys, 2261 Youngstown Road, was broken into about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

In that incident, a vehicle was backed up to a garage door, forcing the door off its tracks, allowing someone to enter the business. Nothing was missing, however, police said.

In both break-ins, the electric meter was damaged, apparently in an attempt to cut power from the businesses, police said.
