Polish American women invited to compete in Ohio pageant

The Polish American Congress-Ohio Division is accepting applications for the Miss Polonia Ohio Contest to take place during the Polonia Ball at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, 1900 Carlton Road at 8:30 p.m. May 1.

The competition is open to young Polish American women from 18 to 26 years of age. Each will be asked to submit a 300-500 word essay explaining what being Polish means to them and how they would share their enthusiasm for their Polish heritage with others if selected as Miss Polonia.

Those competing for the title will be given some basic information about the country, its history and heritage, and a one paragraph poem to be recited for the judges.

The winner of the Miss Polonia title will be crowned at the ball, and will receive $500, and a two-night trip to New York City. where she will represent Ohio in the national pageant on Oct. 23. The first- and second-place winners will receive $250 and $100 respectively.
