BOARDMAN
Boardman police and U.S. marshals respond to a Wednesday afternoon shooting on Mill Creek Boulevard. The victim suffered multiple gunshots, but the man was still talking when he was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center. Police were doing a house-to-house canvass as their investigation got under way.
A man was hospitalized Wednesday after being shot at a home on Mill Creek Boulevard.
The call came in just after 4:30 p.m. from the usually quiet neighborhood.
Yellow police tape cordoned off the home at 6592 Mill Creek.
Lt. Donald Hawkins said the victim suffered multiple gunshots but that the man was still talking when he was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center. The injuries didn’t appear to be life-threatening, officials said.
Police identified the victim as Alynn Grant, 31, a resident of the home. Police said Grant was hit three times but was in stable condition Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Health Center and was facing surgery.
It was unclear whether he was shot inside a car or while he was standing next to it, Hawkins said.
Police were in the early stages of their investigation. Police have a suspect but wouldn’t release his name.
A detective was at the hospital. “Other officers are doing a house-to-house canvass,” Hawkins said.
One neighbor reported seeing a car pull out of the driveway and travel north on Mill Creek at “moderate speeds,” the lieutenant said.
Residents of surrounding streets, who described the neighborhood as quiet, emerged from their homes, trying to find out what had happened.
Penny Stratos, who lives on Brookfield Avenue, which intersects Mill Creek, said she heard the shots.
“It was two shots or maybe even three,” Stratos said. “I thought maybe someone was shooting rabbits.”
Mahoning County property tax records show that the 2,311-square-foot tan-and-red-brick home is owned by Nechelle Spann and Allyn Grant. A for-sale sign stands out front along with a Guardian Security marker close to the house.
