Ohio Supreme Court asked to step into health fray
COLUMBUS (AP) — A group wants the Ohio Supreme Court to allow just one ballot question asking voters to exclude the state from President Barack Obama’s health-care overhaul.
The Ohio Ballot Board ruled 4-0 last week that the issue proposed by the Ohio Liberty Council must be split into two separate ballot measures.
The 1851 Center for Constitutional Law said today it has filed a complaint asking the Supreme Court to review the Ballot Board’s decision. The center says the board’s action was arbitrary and went against its own history.
The Liberty Council is a tea party group that wants voters to amend the Ohio Constitution so the state can opt out of the wide-ranging federal health-care law. It says it can’t offer two new ballot measures by a June 30 deadline.
