NEW CASTLE, Pa.

A mountain-bike path will open this summer at Lawrence County’s West Park Nature Center located on Old Youngstown Road across from New Castle Airport.

Daniele Andrus, Shared Greenways and Environmental Planner for the Lawrence County Planning Office, told Lawrence County commissioners at their meeting Tuesday that a grand opening is being planned for June. Andrus said the mountain-bike trail will be the only one in Lawrence County. The nearest similar trails are in Beaver and Butler counties.

According to the West Park Nature Trail Partnership Web site, the trail will be three miles long, 24 inches wide and one-directional for mountain biking and hiking. Difficulty will be beginner to intermediate, and there will be some obstacles about 6 inches high.

The trail was developed by the Lawrence County Conservation District in cooperation with the Lawrence County Cycling Club and local mountain bikers and hikers.
