A Brookfield Township man charged with distributing child pornography over the Internet and by mail will remain in the Mahoning County jail until a grand jury hears his case.

Brian J. Radachy, 51, of Warren-Sharon Road, appeared Tuesday before a federal magistrate in the Thomas D. Lambros Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse on Market Street for a preliminary hearing.

Radachy, under the advice of his attorney, Carolyn Kucharski from the U.S. public defenders’ office, waived his right to have a preliminary hearing, allowing the matter to go before a grand jury.

Radachy is charged with receiving and sharing the illegal images of sexual acts involving minors.

He is a registered sex offender with the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Department, according to a federal- court affidavit.

Radachy also told the court he wanted to waive his right to a detention hearing. He will remain in custody at least until a grand jury decides whether to proceed with the charges against him.

The investigation into Radachy’s activities began in February when an agent from the Federal Bureau of Investigation accessed a set of shared Internet files in California containing hundreds of images of child pornography. The FBI determined the files belonged to Radachy.

According to the affidavit, the images contained photos of boys age 7 and 8 involved in sex acts with adult males and young boys involved in sex acts with other boys.

The FBI in April issued a search warrant for Radachy’s home and confiscated about 600 compact discs that reportedly contained images of nude boys and men in sexual acts.

According to the affidavit, Radachy was interviewed by agents conducting the search warrant and admitted using a file-sharing program to trade child pornography for the last two or three years.
