Lower tosses no-hitter for Irish

BOARDMAN

Ursuline senior Casey Lower (7-2) pitched a no-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks to lead the Irish over Cardinal Mooney, 1-0, on Tuesday.

Two Ursuline errors (7-2) prevented the perfect game. Sarah Ingalls hit an RBI double in the first inning to score Malikka Caige and Kasey Foley added two hits. For Mooney (9-1), Jamie Clausen pitched a five-hitter, striking out nine and walking two.

Niles 19, Beaver Local 2

NILES

Megan McDermott had three hits including two doubles and two RBI’s to lead Niles (10-1, 1-0 All American Conference). Lindsey Dodgson got the win for the Red Dragons, and also contributed to her own cause driving in four and two doubles. Olivia Devorich had a home run and drove in three, and Lindsey Bates had three hits while driving in two.

South Range 3, Lisbon 1

NORTH LIMA

Madison Yanek (3-1) pitched six innings striking out 10 and walking four in South Range’s (8-1, 5-0 Inter-Tri County League) victory over Lisbon. Carly DeRose came in to get the save and added a triple at the plate. For Lisbon, Katie Snoddy doubled.

Springfield 10, Mineral Ridge 5

NEW MIDDLETOWN

Jessica Evans had three hits, including two doubles, and Ashley Davis added two triples and four RBIs to lead Springfield (5-4, 5-2 ITCL). Nicole Siciliano and Kim Taylor each doubled and singled and Sam Frye had two hits. For Mineral Ridge (0-7), Elyssa Simko and Miranda Stith each had two hits.

Girard 3, Liberty 2

GIRARD

Bryanna Jay had two hits and scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth. She led off the inning with a single, moved to third on a sacrifice and scored on a wild pitch. Lisa Holmes pitched a five-hitter with seven strikeouts and one walk to get the win for Girard (8-1). For Liberty (2-5), Marissa Simon was 2-for-3. Allison House (1-3) pitched a six-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks.

Boardman 7, Fitch 0

AUSTINTOWN

Julie Olbrych had three singles, Brooke Meenachan had two hits and scored three runs and Angela Martin had two hits and two RBIs. Julie Sokol (3-1) pitched a six-hit shutout to lead Boardman (6-1, 1-0 Federal League). For Fitch, Haley Martinelli doubled.

Southeast 10, Coventry 2

AKRON

Kayla Williams struck out 15 to lead Southeast (7-1, 3-1) in a Portage Trail Conference game. Stacy Stewart led the Pirates with three hits, including two doubles. Tricia Williams, Kayla Carson, Terra Coontz and Emily Gahagan all added two hits.

Mathews 12, Maplewood 1

VIENNA

Junior Brittany Schnarrs had a one-hitter with three strikeouts for Mathews (8-1, 3-0 Northeast Athletic Conference). Autumn Timko and Jessica Perkins had three hits apiece, while Schnarrs, Stephanie Durig, Jessica Marsico and Tabby Granelly had two hits apiece for the Mustangs. Schnarrs, Marsico, Granelly and Jenna Whitfield all doubled. Marsico also had a triple as part of the 16-hit attack. Tucker had the lone hit for Maplewood.

Struthers 11, Campbell 0

STRUTHERS

The Wildcats were hot with the bats early, scoring eight runs in the first inning. Mandy Ditman added three hits including a double, and Hanna Dubec doubled for Struthers. Pitcher Ashley Baron (8-1) got the win for Struthers.

McDonald 5, Jackson-Milton 3

NORTH JACKSON

Junior Alyssa Hutzler’s triple knocked in sophomore Jessica Montella and sophomore Gabby Kovach in the top of the seventh with the tie-breaking runs. Senior Kaitlin Rutushin had nine strikeouts during a three-hitter. Sophomore Emily Magill had a two-run home run in the sixth inning and Rutushin tripled, also in the sixth, for McDonald (4-2). Lindsey Knipp, M. Griffiths and S. Ricketson had the hits for Jackson-Milton (3-2).
