Austintown mother charged in her baby's death
AUSTINTOWN — Shannon McBride, 22, was arraigned this morning on charges of obstruction and permitting child abuse in the death of her 23-month-old daughter Makenzie McBride.
McBride, of Austintown, was arraigned in Mahoning County Area Court here and is in the county jail on a $250,000 bond.
Austintown Detective Sgt. Kathy Dina said McBride was charged after an investigation revealed evidence that she was aware of and home during some of the abuse against her daughter.
Makenzie died April 6 in Akron Children’s Hospital. The Summit County Coroner’s Office ruled her cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head.
McBride’s boyfriend Shawn E. Davis, 25, was charged April 7 with aggravated murder and felonious assault in Makenzie’s death.
Davis, of Austintown, was indicted today by the county grand jury and will appear in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court at an undetermined date. He is held without bond in the county jail.
Dina said the prosecutor’s office plans to seek the death penalty for Davis.
