YOUNGSTOWN

A city woman is due back in court next month accused of allowing her two pit-bull dogs to run free and ultimately bite a woman defending her grandchild.

Marina DeChellis, 31, of Milton Avenue, appeared before Judge Elizabeth Kobly of Youngstown Municipal Court on Monday for arraignment on a minor misdemeanor charge of allowing her dogs to run at large. She will be back in Youngstown Municipal Court at 4:30 p.m. May 3 before Magistrate Anthony Sertick.

According to police, a 59-year-old Milton Avenue woman was walking alongside her grandson as the child rode a bicycle along the sidewalk Saturday evening when the two dogs came after the child. The woman grabbed the child and spun him away from the attacking dogs.

Reports say the grandmother was bitten in the buttocks by one of the dogs. The woman drove herself to St. Elizabeth Health Center for treatment.

DeChellis was not home when the incident took place. She was cited with having the loose dogs.
