The Salvation Army’s Christmas 2010 season will begin in June.

That’s when the 2nd Annual Salvation Army Music Festival will take place.

A fundraiser last year at Ponderosa Park to help the army raised $4,800.

Gene Johnson, a Salem postal worker who came up with the idea for the fundraiser, said Monday, “We’d like to get $10,000 this year.”

All proceeds will go to the Salvation Army Angel Tree program, which provides Christmas gifts for underprivileged children.

This year, the 2nd Annual Salvation Army Music Festival will be alcohol-free and will have a new location, at the Moose Mercantile.

The store, a replica of an old general store, is located at 6885 state Route 45 north of Lisbon. It is run by Matt and Cindy Morrissey.

Capt. John Brand of the Salem Salvation Army said the event will start at 11 a.m. June 12. The cost is $5 per person age 10 and older. Children under age 10 get in for free.

Some of the area’s best-known musicians will be taking part.

The bands range from folk with Dulci- More, Christian rock by Leap of Faith, Salem Quaker City Band with pops music and marching music, and two sets by Abby Road, a Beatles tribute band.

There also will be an Elvis impersonator, bagpipers and more singers.

Other attractions include a rib cook-off with trophies, a petting zoo for $1.50, pony rides for $3 and bounce-arounds for $1.
