Girl, 16, escapes from man’s grasp

austintown

A 16-year-old township girl told police that a man tried to pull her from her car over the weekend.

The girl said she pulled into a lot at state Route 46 and Kirk Road about 10:30 p.m. Saturday because her car was overheating.

A man came up to the driver’s side, opened the door, grabbed her arm and tried to pull her from the car, the girl said. She started the car, put it in reverse and drove from the lot to a friend’s house.

Learn to dance the Quickstep

YOUNGSTOWN

If you’ve always wanted to learn the Quickstep, now’s your chance. USA Dance is sponsoring a dance Sunday at the Orthodox Center, 1025 N. Belle Vista Ave.

Jim Ferris and Suzanne Gelinas of Cavana Ballroom will give free Quickstep lessons at 5:30 p.m.

After the lesson, there will be open dancing from 6:15 until 9 p.m. Those taking part will dance to ballroom, Latin, swing and hustle music.

Participants may come with or without a partner. Admission is $5 for USA Dance members; $10 for nonmembers; and $2.50 for students.

USA Dance is a national nonprofit organization run by volunteers. The group’s goal is to promote ballroom and Latin dancing as both a social activity and competitive sport.

The Youngstown-Warren Chapter holds monthly dances with a lesson before each. The dances are open to the public.
