Bond hearing set for man to retried be on child rape charges
YOUNGSTOWN — A bond hearing will be at 11 a.m. April 21 for a man whose conviction by a jury for raping two young boys was overturned by the 7th District Court of Appeals, which ordered two new trials.
Judge R. Scott Krichbaum ordered the hearing for Michael Kaufman after Kaufman’s lawyer, John B. Juhasz, asked the judge to reinstate Kaufman’s previous $150,000 bond; and Dawn Cantalamessa, an assistant Mahoning County prosecutor, called for a $500,000 bond during a status hearing today.
“He is not a flight risk, and there is no threat,” to the safety of the alleged victims, Juhasz said.
“We have no reason to believe he wouldn’t be convicted again,” Cantalamessa said.
