Two men face charges — one in Boardman and the other in Youngstown.
Clifton T. Hudson, 37, of Summer Street, Youngstown, is charged in Mahoning County Area Court with failure to comply with an order of a police officer.
Jamell L. North Sr., also of Summer Street, is charged with possession of a controlled substance, vandalism, obstructing official business and resisting arrest.
Both were in the Mahoning County jail.
About 5 p.m. Friday, a police officer ran a random license-plate check of a car driven by Hudson at Midlothian Boulevard and Simon Road. The registered owner was under suspension, and the officer began to follow the car, which made an abrupt turn onto Shady Run Road without using a turn signal, a police report said.
The officer tried to stop the car, but it continued on several streets. It then turned onto Taft Avenue, where it was traveling in the wrong lane, and the driver slammed on the brakes, then swerved at the cruiser, crashing into it.
No one was injured, but the passenger, later identified as North, got out of the car, jumped over the cruiser, damaging a side mirror and fled. Hudson, the driver, lay down on the ground and was arrested.
Police found a marijuana cigarette in the car, and Hudson was given a minor misdemeanor citation for drug possession,
A short time later, Youngstown police found North at a home on Hunter Street. The occupants told police that he had pounded on the door, and they let him in because they were afraid. Police said they found a small bag containing suspected heroin in the pocket of North’s jeans.
