Lead-based paint abatement is meeting topic tonight

A top Ohio health official will talk about abatement of lead-based paint at a meeting of the Mahoning Valley Real Estate Investor’s Association at 6 p.m. tonight at The Fifth Season Banquet Hall, 1400 N. Canfield Niles Road, Mineral Ridge.

Lead-based paint has been off of the market for more than three decades, but it continues to be a problem for owners of properties built before 1978. With new U.S. EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting Rules taking full effect April 22, property owners need to know what they must do to protect their tenants, and their businesses, the MVREIA says.

The speaker is David Holston of the Ohio Department of Health, who is responsible for the management of the statewide lead and asbestos quality assurance and improvement programs.

The meeting starts with a dinner at 6 p.m., followed by a sharing of information. Visitors are always welcome.
