YSU softball team drops twinbill at Loyola

CHICAGO

The Youngstown State softball team dropped a doubleheader to Loyola on Saturday, losing by scores of 3-2 and 10-2 at Loyola Softball Park.

The Penguins fell to 8-22 overall and 1-4 in the Horizon League.

In the opener, YSU sophomore Haley Thomas went 2-for-2, including a game-opening solo home run, to put the Penguins ahead 1-0 in the top of the first inning.

The Penguins took a 2-1 lead when sophomore Kristen Philen doubled home Autumn Grove.

The Ramblers knotted the game in the bottom of the fourth and scored the game-winning run in the top of the fifth.

In the nightcap, the Ramblers scored seven runs in the first four innings and the Loyola pitchers allowed just four hits.
