SENIOR CITIZENS | Meetings, activities announced


Austintown Chapter 4339, AARP, will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church, 162 S. Raccoon Road, where blood screenings will be available at 12:30. The speaker will be Rand Becker of the Youngstown Playhouse. Tickets will be available for the May 11 spring luncheon at The Manor. New tours will be announced, and a contribution will be accepted for the nursing home project.

Croatian Pensioners of Mahoning Valley will meet at noon Thursday at Lodge 77 Croatian Center, 3200 Vestal Road. Reservations will be accepted for the May 20 founders day dinner, which will begin with a Mass at 11 a.m. followed by the buffet dinner. The cost is $10 for members and $11 for guests. Girard Seniors will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the center, 16 N. State St. April birthdays and anniversaries will be celebrated, and iced tea and cake will be served.

An 11 a.m. liturgy will precede Tuesday’s meeting of the Golden Pillars at noon at St. Mary’s Assumption Social Center, 356 S. Belle Vista Ave. Eleanor Hnat will preside. Birthdays and anniversaries will be observed, and cards and bingo will be played. Members are asked to take a place setting for a luncheon.

Happy Wanderers are reminded to take a sandwich to the noon meeting Friday at Corner House Christian Church. Hospitality will be by Marilyn Spellman, Flo and Gene Shilling, Mary Humenny, and Alice and Bill Jugenheimer. Greeters will be Irene DeStasio, Joyce Walton, Phyllis Thomas and Lois Singer. Members whose last names begin with A-L are asked to take a pie. The program will be by Virgil Smith.

J. C. Penney Retirees will meet for lunch at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Denny’s in Boardman.

K.C.-Ettes of Poland will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the K. of C. Hall for a program on “Hats of the ’50s and ’60s.” Hostesses will be Theresa Mangone, Harriet Budny, Caroline Bryson and Eileen Zornjak.

Liberty 55-Plus Senior Citizens will have a monthly meeting at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Assembly Church, Cardinal Drive, Liberty. Kay Herberger will preside, and Carolyn Davanzo and Irene Hudak will serve as hostesses. Dr. Susan Herr of the Centers for Hearing Care will offer free inner-ear wax exams with a video otoscope and free hearing screening to members at 11 a.m. There will be a 50-50 raffle, and April birthdays will be acknowledged.

Local 2243 Retirees, U.S.W.A. Copperweld Steel, S.O.A.R. 1-28-10 will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday at Local 1375 Union Hall, 684 N. Park Ave., Warren. Judge Thomas A. Swift will be the speaker.

Mahoning Bank Retirees will not meet until further notice.

Bridge, 500, chess and checkers will be played when Martha Lupse 50-Plus Card and Game Club meets from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Room 106 at Poland United Methodist Church. Bob Ferrara will give the devotions. Members are reminded to take a sack lunch; coffee and tea will be provided. No affiliation with the church is required for participation. St. Anthony Senior Club will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday in DeMarinis Hall. Coffee will be available at noon; take a bag lunch. Dessert will be provided by Frank and Lee Thomas, Jennie Marinelli and Joanne Thomas.

St. Brendan 60-Plus Club will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Maxwell Hall with Dorothy LoSasso presiding. Reports will be given by Ann Banyots and Dorothy Proceck. The cost for the luncheon is $1. There will be a 50-50 raffle, cards and bingo.

St. Charles Over-55 Club will have a short meeting followed by refreshments at noon Tuesday in the social hall.
