HOWLAND
Sarah Vrabel’s two-run double in the seventh inning led the Canfield High softball team to a 4-3 win over Howland on Saturday. Brina Sturgeon doubled in the sixth inning then scored on two wild pitches for the Cardinals (3-3, 1-1 All-American Conference Red Tier). For the Tigers (3-4, 0-2), Erika Nites doubled. In North Allegheny’ win, Maria Shevchik hit a two-run homer and Toni Miller hit a RBI double. Brina Sturgeon (0-1) hit a RBI double for the Cards.

NORTH LIMA
Madison Yanek (2-1) tossed a two-hit shutout and struck out 13 batters in the opener. Kristin Robinson had two hits for the Raiders (7-1) while Paige Seech doubled for the Eagles (3-5). In the second game, Carly DeRose tossed a two-hitter, striking out 14. For Hubbard, Keri Durina doubled.
Mooney 13, Richmond Edison 9 Mooney 10, Ashtabula Edgewood 9
BOARDMAN
Against Edison (7-2), Mooney (8-0) raced to a 10-0 third-inning lead behind Christina Hrehor and Vickie Farris, then held on. Jamie Clausen (5-0) was the winner and Cadi Sheffler got the save for 2 1/3 innings of relief. Hrehor had a grand slam and five RBIs while Farris had two hits and two RBIs. Against Edgewood (5-2), Mooney rallied from an 8-1 deficit behind Christina Hrehor’s home run and key hits by Simone Zeoli, Marissa Gorvet, Shayla DeCapita and Macy Ucchino to take a 9-8 lead into the seventh. Mooney’s defense via a relay cut down the potential winning run to end the inning. In the last of the eighth, Ucchino led off with a bunt single and raced to third on a throwing error. With the bases loaded, Farris drew a walk on a 3-2 pitch to bring in Katelyn Kowalczyk with the winning run. Hrehor and Chrissy Porter had key RBIs in a four-run fifth. Cadi Sheffler (2-0) struck out 15 and stifled the Wildcats down the stretch.
Ursuline 8, Mogadore Field 4
AKRON
Senior Sarah Ingalls went 3-for-4 with an RBI double and a grand slam to lead Ursuline, which rallied from a 4-2 deficit with five runs in the sixth inning of the Akron Racers Ohio Invitational. It was Ingalls’ fourth homer this year, matching her total from last year. Malikka Caige had two hits, including a triple, and Sara Marr also had two hits for the Irish (5-2). Field is 7-3.
Niles 9, Triad 6 Niles 6, Revere 3 Niles 7, Windham 6
AKRON
Niles improved their record over the weekend to 9-0, sweeping a triple-header. Aubrey Hale (4-0) went the distance for Niles in the first game, giving up six hits, one strike out and three walks. Hale also had three hits, including a double and two RBIs. Sammy Melius added two hits of her own, and also drove in two. Ashley Ganyard also doubled for Niles. Against Revere, Hale stayed hot at the plate with a double and two RBIs. Lindsey Dodgson (3-0) picked up the win, striking out three and walking seven. Against Windham, Dodgson got her second win, going five innings with two strike outs and one walk. Hale picked up the save, striking out two of the three batters she faced. Sammy Ramer contributed with three hits, and Ganyard had two of her own. Olibia Devorich had three hits, including a homer and two RBIs. Katelyn Kurilla also doubled for Niles.
Poland 6, Teays Valley 0 Pickerington Central 9, Poland 2
PICKERINGTON
Erin Gabriel struck out 18 during a one-hitter and the sophomore also had a double and two singles for three RBIs. At the plate, Jessica D’Apolito had a solo home run in the second inning, Alexis Shields had a double and single, Kalie Benson had two singles and Adriana Sikora had two singles. Ashley Kinzer had the lone hit for Teays Valley (5-3). In the second game, Gabriel had a double and two singles, Benson and Adriana Sikora had two singles apiece and Emily Chandler doubled for Poland (5-1). For the Pickerington Central Tigers (8-2), Kelsey Long had a three-run single, Jenn Hewitt had three singles and Kris Massie had two singles. Long was also the winner in relief.
East Palestine 13-14, East Liverpool 0-2
EAST PALESTINE
In the first game, Emily Stewart had four hits while winning pitcher Karly Pence (6-0) had two hits and four RBIs. Carly Blair and Erin Hughes had three hits apiece. In the second game, Logan Gatchel homered, tripled and doubled to drive in five runs. Pence hit a three-run homer.
Southeast 6-8, LaBrae 1-4
LEAVITTSBURG
Emily Gahagan homered, and Kayla Carson had a base hit and drove in two as Southeast (5-1) went home with two victories. Kayla Williams had 12 strikeouts and went the distance for the Pirates to get the win. In the second game, Emily Willis had a triple and three RBIs while Stacy Stewart doubled. LaBrae (4-4) was led offensively by Chelsie Hartman who doubled on the day and Courtney Aldridge with a triple.
