Tree-planting event set for next weekend

YOUNGSTOWN

The Boulevard Park Block Watch will plant trees in the gateway islands and curb lawns of Euclid and Rush boulevards on the city’s South Side next Saturday and April 24, starting at 9 a.m.

About 25 trees will be planted.

Funds to purchase the trees came from the Raymond J. Wean Foundation and from block watch members. Also, Treez Please and the Mahoning Valley Organizing Collaborative donated some trees.

This is an event the block watch plans to do annually, with flowers added in the future, said Amanda Signor, a member.

In preparation of the planting, the city’s park and recreation department is removing some of the current trees that are in poor condition and digging holes for the new trees.

Financial contributions are being accepted by mail at: 7th Ward Citizens Coalition Inc., 4907 Sheridan Road, Youngstown 44514. Make sure to note that the donation is for the Boulevard Park Block Watch.
