Watson PTA’s Spring Carnival is a tradition that has been described as not only a fund-raising event but a fun-raising opportunity for Watson students, friends and family.
On Mar. 26, the students and their families were treated to an evening of fun by the Watson PTA.
The agenda included a number of bounce-around attractions, carnival-style games, music, prizes and food.
To kick off the event, a presentation of Watson’s Carnival Royal Court was made with members representing grades kindergarten through third. Students were chosen for the honor by secret ballot and each student was introduced during the presentation and crowned for the flashing cameras of family and friends.
The crowned princes and princesses representing kindergarten were Conner Ambrose and Ariana Hoffman. First grade representatives were Za’Daire Smith and Shianna Deucaster.
Second-grade students Nicholas Ciolli and Megan Mayle earned honors, while the third grade king and queen were Tyler Short and Ryleigh Morgan.
One popular attraction was the cake walk with students playing a musical chair-style game with the opportunity to win a cake.
The evening included a basket raffle with an array of prizes donated by community members and businesses. With nearly 50 baskets on display, PTA volunteers sold chances to win a basket of prizes to attendees as they entered the school. “We have double the number of baskets from last year, receiving donations from Watson families and members of the Austintown Community. We have had wonderful support from the community,” said PTA representative Jody West.
Some of the big prizes in this year’s raffle included an American Girl Doll donated by the American Girl Company, a bicycle and an assortment of gift cards.
West explained that although this event is not the PTA’s biggest yearly fundraiser, it generates money that helps them to fund student assemblies throughout the year.
