Emotions were on display as the life, death and resurrection of Jesus was reenacted in Highway Tabernacle Church’s “Passion Play” on Sunday.
“When Jesus brought the cross in, I was so emotional,” said Youngstown resident Christina Chislom. “It made me truly thankful to be a Christian.”
This year marked the 10th year the play has been in production. The event is always free of charge and open to the public.
The play was performed five times between Mar. 28 and its finale Apr. 4. Word of the play traveled far as there were individuals visiting from Ashtabula, Cleveland and Virginia.
Cast and crew members were comprised of church members that all volunteered their time to assist in the production. Camels and farm animals were also cast for the play to portray a more realistic experience for audience members.
Senior pastor Jonathan Moore says he is blessed to have church members that are dedicated to the play each year and a community that comes out to support it.
