March 23

Criminal mischief: Someone tossed and smeared food on a vehicle at the Southern Park Mall.

Theft: A purse was removed from a car in the 1500 block of Tamarisk Trail.

Misuse of a credit card: A McDonald man learned his debit card had been used without authorization at a Southern Park Mall store.

Breaking and entering: Two air-conditioning units were stolen from an Old Oxford Lane residence after someone cut a lock to a basement storage area.

Theft: A Deer Run Drive woman discovered a $343 unauthorized online withdrawal had been made from her account.

Menacing: A worker with a Windham Court business said a client threatened to harm him after becoming upset about the client’s legal case.

Theft: A GPS unit was stolen from a car in the 1500 block of Tamarisk Trail.

Arrest: A traffic stop near U.S. Route 224 led to the arrest of 63-year-old James T. Gaca, 30 Anna Circle, Struthers, who was wanted on a charge of contempt of court.

Assault: A man driving near Lynn Mar Avenue reported another driver approached as the accuser pulled into a driveway, then tossed a lighted cigarette, striking him above the right eye. The driver said the accuser had tossed something at his car and denied throwing the cigarette, a report said.

March 31

Vehicle theft: A Youngstown woman’s 1993 Chevrolet van was stolen at a South Avenue store.

Arrest: A Poland boy, 15, surrendered on a charge of telephone harassment related to an 11-year-old boy’s reported having been a victim.

Attempted breaking and entering: Someone tried to enter a DeBartolo Place doctor’s office by a side door.

Arrest: Police took 53-year-old Joseph M. Czap into custody at his residence, 850 Mathews Road, Boardman, on a felony warrant from Stark County charging him with complicity to theft.

Theft by deception: An elderly Mill Creek Boulevard woman reported someone contacted her claiming she had won a lottery for $5.7 million, but that the accuser first needed to send $1,500 to a person in Trenton, N.J.

Arrest: Michael C. Hurl was picked up at his home, 60 Sciota Ave., on a probation-violation warrant from Franklin County related to a charge of workers’ compensation fraud.

April 1

Drugs: A traffic stop on Market Street led to a felony count of trafficking in drugs against 19-year-old Robert M. Paul, 6110 Market St., when, authorities said, two small bags containing one rock each of suspected crack cocaine, as well as a scale with suspected drug residue, were found.

Arrest: James A. Schoolcraft, 25, of 53 Frank St., Struthers, was arrested during a traffic stop on Market Street. He was accused by Struthers police of failing to appear in court.

Theft: A Squirrel Hill Drive woman found out $30 had been withdrawn from her account without permission.

Theft: A woman reported a $100 gift card stolen from her elderly aunt’s Paxton Road residence.

Stolen property: Officers responded to a theft at a Market Street motel, then charged 21-year-old Mary L. Cooper of Hueytown, Ala., with receiving stolen property after saying she had a stolen $400 global-positioning-system unit.

Burglary: To a residence in the 7900 block of Glenwood Avenue through a side door. Stolen were several wristwatches and numerous pieces of jewelry.

Theft: A township man reported his $500 cell phone stolen while he was at a South Avenue restaurant.

Theft: Authorities booked 21-year-old Derrick A. Gabriel, 1031 Filmore Ave., Youngstown, after $186 worth of clothing was stolen from Sears. He also was cited when, officers said, a small quantity of suspected marijuana was found.

Theft: Police charged a township boy, 15, and released him to his mother’s custody after an $8.50 pair of earrings was stolen from Claire’s Boutique in the Southern Park Mall.

April 2

Theft: Someone removed $300 from a car in the 600 block of Boardman-Canfield Road.

Criminal damaging: Someone did $500 worth of damage to an entrance door at a business in the 8500 block of South Avenue.

Theft/criminal damaging: A vacant Cook Avenue apartment suffered interior damage. Also, a washing machine and dryer and two air-conditioning units were damaged or stolen.

Theft: A bottle of prescription pills was taken from a car in the 200 block of Charles Avenue.

Burglary: Took place at an apartment in the 7500 block of Market Street. The resident said his collection of about 600 DVDs was tampered with, but nothing appeared to be missing.

Arrest: Police investigating a traffic accident on Southern Boulevard arrested 41-year-old Joe B. Gibson Jr., 315 N. Roanoke Ave., Austintown, on a probation-violation charge.

Harassment: A Sheridan Road woman reported her teenage daughter received messages that were threatening and racist.

April 3

Criminal mischief: Several eggs were tossed at a home in the 200 block of Shields Road.

Criminal damaging: Two tires on a vehicle were slashed and its windshield sustained damage at a Tiffany Boulevard motel.

Theft: A woman reported money stolen from her Ridgewood Drive residence.

Possible theft: A North Lima man reported his wallet lost or stolen while in the 800 block of Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: Police charged Jack F. Komsa, 48, of 555 Afton Ave., Boardman, with theft and possession of criminal tools after $215 worth of merchandise was stolen from Wal-Mart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Theft: Esteban Dominguez, 27, of 7051 West Blvd., Boardman, faced charges of theft and possession of criminal tools. Dominguez was accused of using a set of box cutters at Wal-Mart to open packages containing various electronics.

April 4

Vandalism: A 5-by-8-inch double-pane window was shattered at a Doral Drive store.

April 5

Aggravated menacing: Police stopped a driver who they say led them on a vehicular pursuit before apprehending him on Market Street. Mohammad K. Alturk, 24, of 327 Mansell Drive, Liberty, faced several traffic violations and an additional charge of aggravated menacing when, authorities said, he threatened to harm an officer during the booking process.

Theft: Jena R. Benzenhoefer, 19, of 142 Spring St., Struthers, and a 16-year-old Struthers girl were charged with stealing three boxes of condoms from Wal-Mart. The younger girl also was charged with drug abuse (marijuana).

Theft: Two men left Buffalo Wild Wings in the Southern Park Mall without paying their $47.25 food bill.

Theft: A $700, .45-caliber handgun was removed from an office in the 4800 block of Market Street.

Theft: A temporary tag was stolen off a vehicle in the 1100 block of Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: A Stadium Drive woman discovered her stolen automated-teller-machine card was used at a Market Street bank, and that two rings were missing from her home.

Arrest: Police received a report of a man following a woman in his truck, then charged 39-year-old Eric R. Johns, 3700 Johnson Farm Drive, Canfield, with a misdemeanor count of stalking. The woman reported her estranged husband had followed her in violation of a restraining order.

Theft: An MP3 player, a laptop computer and two chargers were stolen from a truck in the 700 block of Cheriwood Court.

Theft: Several checks and $3,000 were missing from a DeBartolo Place office.
