C.H. Campbell students learned an important environmental lesson from a pair of mermaids and their human friend during a visit from the Magic Carpet Theater Mar. 29.

The acting troupe gave a performance of “The Day Miranda Met the Mermaid.”

The 30-minute play aims to teach elementary school students about the dangers of littering and the importance of recycling, reducing and reusing materials.

After the performance, members of the troupe showed the students how all of the play’s costumes and set pieces were made out of reused materials. Actors encouraged students to find creative uses for discarded materials.

C.H. Campbell principal Kent Polan thanked students for attending the performance and urged them to help their families recycle.

Magic Carpet Theater is an educational outreach program run by the Oakland Center for the Arts. The group performs plays at elementary schools and middle schools in northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania.
