Spring was in the air at Hilltop Elementary School as the PTO held its annual Fun in the Sun event for all students Apr. 1.
The students dressed in tropical clothing and accessories to celebrate spring.
There were bright colors with Hawaiian leis, sunglasses, grass skirts, sun hats and some with flowers in their hair.
“The event is fun day for the students,” said Karin Hudock, PTO member and volunteer. “It gives them a chance to blow off some steam the day before spring break.”
The celebration of spring continued for students during each lunch period.
Tables in the cafeteria were cleared away to make room for the students to spread out beach towels and blankets and eat a picnic-style lunch.
The PTO even provided a special treat to help celebrate the day.
Toward the end of each lunch period, PTO volunteers passed out ice cream sandwiches to each student.
After lunch, the students continued with more fun in the sun, provided by Mother Nature, during recess on the school’s playground.
